FAQ

Product

How are EcoloPharm medication vials different from others?

The EcoloVial EV1 is molded in a single piece.

This provides several advantages:

  • Saves space in the lab: 33% fewer boxes to store.
  • One EcoloVial replaces two push-and-turn vials and their caps.
  • One EcoloVial replaces a snap-cap vial and its caps.
  • Shipped closed, it eliminates the risk of contamination.

In addition, the EcoloVial EV1 has a lower environmental impact than conventional vials:

  • Contains 30% less plastic.
  • Its design requires less water and energy and emits 33% fewer GHGs.

See the Our Impact section to learn more about the environmental benefits of our products.

Why don’t you sell caps separately?

Small plastic pieces, such as caps, are rarely recycled since they are less than one inch in diameter.

Our one-piece vial-and-cap design reduces ordering time and simplifies inventory management in pharmacies.

Attaching the vial to a multifunctional cap allows us to manufacture a vial with 30% less plastic than a conventional product.

Ordering separate caps would unnecessarily consume cardboard and plastic, while emitting more GHGs.

What is the difference between the clear vial and the green vial?

The color is directly linked to the level of protection against ultraviolet (UV) rays.

While clear vials provide relatively low protection, the green ones protect medications up to 97%* (the highest protection on the market).

*On average, depending on vial size

Is your vial compatible with my automation system?

The EcoloVial EV1 is not yet compatible with automation, but it is compatible with AccuCount, CountAssist, and Countmate systems.

Does EcoloVial offer UV protection?

Sustainability

Aren’t all vials recyclable?

Yes… and no

Polypropylene (the material used to manufacture the EcoloVial EV1) is indeed highly recyclable. But in Canada, only about 9% of plastics are actually recycled.

To maximize the recyclability of the vial, we:

  • Designed a vial/cap as a single piece, since small pieces like caps usually end up in the trash.
  • Created a monomaterial product, which is essential for recycling facilities to process it.

Are your vials reusable?

Since there can be a risk of cross-contamination between certain medications, the decision to reuse a medication vial lies with your pharmacist.

What material is used?

EcoloVial vials are made entirely of polypropylene (type 5).
