FAQ

Product

How are EcoloPharm medication vials different from others?

EcoloVial EV1 stands out from conventional prescription vials through three unique features on the Canadian market:

  • Molded in a single piece (vial and cap are inseparable)
  • Uses 30% less plastic
  • Reduces manufacturing GHG emissions by 33%

In the pharmacy lab, one EcoloVial replaces two push-and-turn vials and their caps, simplifying ordering and reducing storage space by 33%.

See the Our Impact section to learn more about the environmental benefits of our products.

Why don’t you sell caps separately?

Small plastic pieces, such as caps, are rarely recycled since they are less than one inch in diameter.

Our one-piece vial-and-cap design reduces ordering time and simplifies inventory management in pharmacies.

Attaching the vial to a multifunctional cap allows us to manufacture a vial with 30% less plastic than a conventional product.

Ordering separate caps would unnecessarily consume cardboard and plastic, while emitting more GHGs.

What is the difference between the EV1 vial and the EcoloVial?

There are two main differences.

1. Design

The EV1 is especially valued by pharmacies that handle high volumes of compliance packaging.

2. Plastic reduction

  • EV1: 30% less plastic*
  • EcoloVial: 35% less plastic*

*Compared to a similar product manufactured using a conventional process.

*On average, depending on vial size

Does EcoloVial offer UV protection?

Sustainability

Aren’t all vials recyclable?

No. The recyclability of a prescription vial depends on its design, not just its material.
In Canada, only 9% of plastics are actually recycled.

EcoloVial EV1 was designed to maximize its chances of being recycled: it is made from single-material polypropylene (Type 5), a highly recyclable material, and the cap is integrated, preventing it from being separated and lost in the waste stream, as is often the case with small components under one inch in diameter.

Are your vials reusable?

Since there can be a risk of cross-contamination between certain medications, the decision to reuse a medication vial lies with your pharmacist.

What material is used?

EcoloVial vials are made entirely of polypropylene (type 5).
